Steve Valk is Head Dramaturge of Ireland`s Daghdha Dance Company, one of Europe`s most pioneering arts organizations and founder / CEO of „r.i.c.e.“ an international dramaturgical and social choreographic agency with headquarters in Frankfurt Germany.* From 1992 until 2004 he was a creative partner and head dramaturge for William Forsythe and the Ballett Frankfurt. From 1998 until 2004 he was head dramaturge and then creative consultant for the TAT (Theater am Turm) Theater. During this period, his contributions to the groundbreaking projects Schmalclub and New Meaningful Public Space were instrumental in the establishment of the field of Social Choreography. SInce 2004 he has been one of the leading figures in the field of contemporary dance dramaturgy and a pioneer in the field of Social Choreography. In 2007 his collaboration with Irish dancer Jean Butler was named „Best Irish Contemporary Dance Performance 2007“ by the magazine „Ballet International“. Steve Valk is a friend and long-term collaborator of Dr. W. Gordon Lawrence, the founder of Social Dreaming and is on the board of Social Dreaming Ltd. In February of 2009, he presented a large-scale Social Choreographic project involving Gordon Lawrence and Social Dreaming for the Zodiak Center for New Dance’s „Side-Step Festival“ in Helsinki, Finland.
